Announcements for Mar 4, 2008

Congratulations to the SkillsUSA members who will advance to the state contests in Corpus Christi.

 


Mrs. Maxey has extended the prom ticket deadline to March 10. She will sell tickets before school, after school and during all lunches in the drama room. She will not sell them during class time.

 


The student council luncheon will be during all lunches on Friday. You must have a ticket to attend. Please bring your STUCO project to Mr. Wall’s room and pick up your ticket by tomorrow afternoon. Junior and sophomore members: In order to be eligible for STUCO next year, you must have completed all of your project assignments.

 


Ten student council members attended the District 3 Spring Convention at Skyline High School in Dallas last Saturday. CHS won the two highest awards given at the convention. The awards were for Outstanding Student Council and Sweepstakes. This is the 27th consecutive year CHS has won those awards. One hundred sixty-two schools are in district and only 27 schools won both awards.

More than $2.000 was raised for Pennies for Patients. Twenty-five classes participated. Mrs. Thompson’s class is in the lead for the grand prize. It will be official when we collect all the money. Congratulations to all who participated.

 

Information is available in the counseling center for the Save Old Cleburne scholarship. The deadline for the $1,500 is March 28.

 

BPA meets Tuesday, March 11 at 7:45 a.m. on the commons. At this time you will have your group picture made for the yearbook. Immediately following the picture you will meet in the Lyceum for the regular meeting. A speaker from Chesapeake will talk about the oil and gas business.

 

A concert benefiting Wheat Middle School 8th grade will be presented on the commons Monday night, March 10, from 6-8 p.m. Sonny Burgess is the featured performer. There will also be concessions and a silent auction.

 

Exchangettes meet for a mandatory meeting tomorrow. Members need to remember to bring money for pictures ($5) and $20 for buttons. At the meeting members will discuss the junior/senior powder puff game. Members will also discuss the projects for the rest of the school year.

 

Stop by the library any day this week and take the Twlight Quiz. The top score on the quiz will win the Twilight afghan. If more than one person scores a 100 percent, their names will be entered into a drawing for the winner.

 

 

Seniors time is running out to purchase baby ads for the yearbook at the reduced rate. After today, the price will increase $25 per ad..

 

The TAKS test schedule is as follows: March 3—exit level social studies; March 4—no testing; March 5—ninth grade reading, 10, 11 and 12th grade English Language Arts; March 6—Exit level math and March 7—Exit level science.

 

New scholarships information available in the counseling center is as follows: The Exchangettes scholarship, the University of Houston Frontier Fiesta Association scholarship and the 2008 Hispanic Heritage Youth Awards.

 

Information for the Jesse Fantroy scholarship for African-American graduating seniors is now available in the counseling center. The deadline is May 3.

 

The career center has information on the following scholarships: the Rotary scholarship, the Academic Excellence scholarship and the Rotary Career and Technology scholarship.

 

Seniors who have at least one semester of Family and Consumer Science need to apply for the Cleburne Area Quilters’ Guild scholarship. The deadline is May 11. Pick up the applications in the counseling center.

 

The Barbara Vaught Scholarship information for graduating female students is now available in the counseling center. The deadline is April 14.

 

Seniors receiving scholarships for athletics, academics or other reasons from colleges or universities need to stop by the counseling center and give the information to your counselor for the awards day program.

 

If you haven’t purchased a 2008 yearbook from Jostens, you may now buy a book from Mrs. Davis in room 106 or from the yearbook editor, Krystan Ellis or other staff members. The cost is $70. We will not be ordering extra yearbooks. If you don’t order before the end of April, you will not have a chance to purchase one next year.

Varsity tennis plays in the Saginaw tournament beginning at 8 a.m. Friday.

 

The Lady Jacket track team placed fourth at the Decatur track meet this weekend. See the Yapper website for individual results.

 

The track teams run in the Pirate Relays in Granbury on Friday.
